Join NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) for a virtual conversation with Jared Corwin, filmmakers and Co-Director/Curator of Silver Lake Shorts, a short film screening series that celebrates LA-based filmmakers, animators, and comedians each month. We will discuss the role of film festivals and screenings in building and promoting community, how you as a filmmaker can take advantage of festivals and screenings, and particular focus on Jared’s experience at Silver Lake Shorts and their upcoming independent filmmaker fellowship program.

About Jared Corwin
Jared Corwin wrote and produced the feature film, “Audio.” He also created the short film, “Time Enforcer” which was purchased by the sci-fi streaming platform, Dust, and screened to great response at film festivals such as Fantastic Fest and Hollyshorts. Jared has worked with Bento Box and Adult Swim as a writer/producer through their incubator programs, and has written/produced short animations for Cartuna. Jared first came on as the Co-Director/Curator of Silver Lake Shorts in January 2022. Since joining Silver Lake Shorts, Jared helped the screening series grow into one of the most popular festivals in Los Angeles, featuring cutting-edge indie films and animations and filling to audience capacity every screening.
About Silver Lake Shorts
Silver Lake Shorts is a Los Angeles short film screening series that celebrates LA-based filmmakers, animators, and comedians. The 90-minute program takes place once a month and has been an ongoing series since July 2019. The screening is held at the historic El Cid in Silver Lake.
Silver Lake Shorts is completely free to submit to and attend and fills to a 200+ audience capacity every month. Their aim is to ensure that the film festival experience is open to everyone, regardless of financial limitations. Silver Lake Shorts showcases films and animations that contain clear intention, voice, and perspective. They feature all genres, styles, and tones and aim to celebrate the artist’s unobstructed vision from filmmakers at varying stages in their professional careers.
