In our 4th year of celebrating Latino and Hispanic filmmakers and their stories, the NewFilmmakers Los Angeles InFocus series will be spotlighting films from and about the Latino and Hispanic communities. On Saturday, September 10th, 2016 NFMLA, sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will present a special evening hosted at the Hollywood home of the Academy, The Mary Pickford Center Linwood Dunn Theater. The curated InFocus program will consist of 2 short film programs featuring talent from Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Cuba along with Germany as well as filmmakers representing the local Latino and Hispanic landscape. The night closes with an incredible feature comedy from Peru.
Check in at 4:15 to meet and mingle with the filmmakers and industry supporters before stepping into the theater to experience the comprehensive collection of stories from this international community during the two short film programs. These stories promise to take you away to different cultures and destinations or provide you with a glimpse of what is happening here in the US. Then, transport yourself to the hip and creative scene of Lima, Peru with ‘Just Like the Movies’, a lovely comedy following a down on his luck filmmaker who’s infectious passion summons up support from his old friends and an out of reach love interest to help him make his next film.
In between films, you will have the opportunity to mingle over cocktails and beats at the reception inside the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Mary Pickford Center in the Linwood Dunn Theatre. Purchase your tickets today to ensure that you get a seat as space is limited.
